WHAT IS PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE & INJURY RESISTANCE TRAINING?

Sport-specific training that improves players’ physical capabilities. This type of training aims to reduce incidence of injury and increase overall performance by improving speed, stability, coordination, agility, balance, endurance and power.

Soccer-specific physical performance and injury resistance training does as the name suggests: improves overall performance in the sport of soccer and enhances injury prevention by creating a substantial overall protective effect of neuromuscular training, statistically resulting in:

  • 36% reduction lower extremity injury

  • 95% incidence rate without prevention programs

  • Particularly effective in preventing ACL tears (most common among female soccer players)  

Additionally, improved physical health also facilitates psychological benefits such as self-confidence and increased motivation!

HOW IS IT BEING IMPLEMENTED AT Eastshore Alliance FC?

Gina Woodward, an Eastshore Alliance FC coach, is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) and a Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSC). She is also a certified Exos Performance Specialist (XPS) - this certification is based on the EXOS Training System which emphasizes the seamless integration of Mindset, Nutrition, Movement, and Recovery.

Eastshore Alliance FC Physical Performance Program priorities include:

  • Coach & player education to establish foundations for players of all levels and set them up for success in soccer, other sports or any life activity!

  • Strength & stability development to support efficient, athletic movement and injury prevention

  • Movement preparation (evolution from the commonly known “warm up”) to prep for the physical demands of the session and prevent injury

  • Athletic movement skills dominance and the transitions between them

  • Plyometrics which are key to speed and explosiveness

  • Energy Systems Development (ESD) otherwise known as fitness
