Referee Education

Eastshore Alliance FC takes the education of our referees seriously.  We encourage and acknowledge referees who take the time to learn how to be better referees. Please explore the educational resources below.

Also, if you want a referee mentor to join you at a Spurs FC game, please email Referee Coordinator, Stefan Brunnschweiler at referee@eastshorealliancefc.org and we will set it up.

REFEREE FAQ

  • If you are already a USSF licensed referee, email Referee Coordinator Henry Warmerdam at eastshorealliancefc@gmail.com requesting access to the Eastshore Alliance FC MySoccerLeague (MSL) referee assignment system.

If you are not a USSF licensed referee, you must take a USSF referee course, including a field assessment and pass the exam. You can find this course on CNRA's (California North Referee Administration) website. Then you can request access to our referee assignment system.

    1. Click on the date that you want to referee.

    2. Decide if you want to be a center referee (CR) or an assistant referee (AR).

    3. Hit the request button which then sends a message to the Referee Coordinator.

  • Every referee should have the new official yellow referee jersey and official 2 stripe referee socks. USSF implemented the new referees uniform design (jerseys and socks) in 2018, so all referees must now wear them. If you do not have a new jersey or new socks, please buy them as soon as possible.

In addition to an official jersey and socks, referees must have:

    • black shorts,

    • mostly black shoes,

    • referee cards,

    • assistant referee flags,

    • a pen and paper,

    • a whistle, and

    • a watch

Make sure to bring water and snacks to eat between games.

SoccerPro in Berkeley has affordable referee starter kits available. As you are a new referee, we will give you a bonus to purchase your gear if you officiate five games in your first season.

  • If you are rejected for a game, we have done it for a good reason. Here are three reasons we will decline a game request.

    1. Lots of people have asked for the game and it was given to someone else.

    2. We don't think you're ready for the match yet.

    3. We are specifically looking to get new referees into our system.

* All referees have the ability to write a game report in MSL. We expect all referees to write a report.
